Paul was in prison. Alone. It wasn't his first time but was bound to be his last time. He had fought his fight and run his race. In his final correspondence with his beloved protege, Timothy, he requests his presence. In the meantime, the Lord stood by him and strengthened him. Even in our loneliest moments, the Lord stands by us. He gives us insight. He empowers us.

Controversial topics are legion these days. Race. Gender. Sexuality. Diet. Pick one. Share your opinion. Then hold your breath. You've probably offended someone. You've probably been offended. Saul was breathing threats and murder against Christians. Little did he know, we would soon join them as one of their chief spokespeople. Jesus stopped him on the way to Damascus, called his name, stole his sight, and gave him a new mission. Saul, who became Paul, converted, received his commission, and the rest, as they say, is history. His story is an example of Jesus taking the most odious breath and refreshing it. He did it with Paul; he does it with us.
