In this sermon, Pastor Tim shows pictures of his children, drinks a lot of milk, and talks about the glorious growth expected from God's people. When we crave good and love others, growth naturally follows.

God is our refuge and strength. Those who have persevered in their faith know God is a present help in trouble. And trouble will come, in various shapes and forms. To hold out for God instead of relying on self results in perseverance.

Our hearts are prone to idolatry. They are allured by the local, functional, manageable nature of graven images. God's people played the harlot with idols, effecting the crisis of exile. Jeremiah challenges their "handmade cisterns," which they traded for the Living God. Unfortunately, idolatry is not only a "thing" problem, it is also a theology problem. Having an errant or insufficient view of God makes Him into an idol of the mind. We must avoid these graven images and embrace the Heavenly Father.

Crisis will come in life. We cannot escape it; there is no crisis-proofing life. However, when we view crisis as God's curriculum for a resilient faith and take action through trust, prayer, reason, and perseverance, we see God use hard times for His good. Joseph serves as a profile of resilient faith. His personal crises - betrayal, slavery, slander, imprisonment, and separation from his father - build his trust in God and allow him to help others.

God's world inspires wonder. He has stamped creation with diversity, complexity, enormity, abundance, and personality. Reflecting on the creation account of Genesis 1-2, Psalm 104 restores our WonderLUST and moves us to praise our Wise Creator

When darkness covers the Psalmist (n 88), he cries out to God. There is nowhere else to go; neither is there any guarantee God will help him. His friends have deserted him. His health is has failed him. He laments. God invites us to cry out to him in times of personal crisis. We must learn to speak our griefs to the God who saves, even if our circumstances remain grim.

Passage: Psalms 13:1-6
Duration: 36 mins 37 secs
Sometimes God seems absent. Our suffering lingers and prayers languish. The Psalms give us language for this feeling of lament. Psalm 13 invites us to express our hurt and pain, to voice our questions. God is a good dialogue partner. And even when He feels absent, His love is sure.

Bob Chisholm exhorts us to do the right thing, Rather than panic, face the rushing buffalo, new diagnosis, prodigal child, or any personal challenge by remembering God's faithfulness in the past and His presence in the moment. Weaving together personal narratives and the aftermath of David's victory over Goliath, this sermon gives hope. (NOTE: The recording missed the first few minutes of his story about cavalry facing a herd of rushing buffalo, stretching 30 miles wide. It picks up just as they decide their plan of action.)

Finishing a task is often harder than it seems. To finish pushes us beyond our comfort zones, stirs up fears, and creates opposition (internal and external). We face distractions and give into short-term gratification, rather than long-term satisfaction. Nehemiah exemplifies how to resist obstacles and finish his task. He builds a wall in Jerusalem, in spite of constant interruptions. He calls us to live as finishers.

Nehemiah stood against his opponents, whose taunts and plots disturbed the people of Jerusalem, but did not stop their work. Any building project for God's glory will face opposition, but good leaders and workers stand firm through the fear, knowing their God fights for them. This integrates stories of modern day bullies, imprecatory psalms, bands of brothers, and God's strength.
