God knows us intimately. From conception to final breath, he intends good for us. He authored a beautiful, complex, and fragile conception process. He grants us dignity as image-bearers for all of our determined days. The psalmist reflects on these weighty realities in vv. 13-18, proclaiming he is "fearfully and wonderfully made." The poetry accords with what science has revealed about DNA, brain function, and fetal development. Human life is a gift--a public and personal good that points us to God.

Too often we view spiritual growth as an individual exercise. We do personal devotions. We make personal commitments. We mark personal progress in our individual battle against sin. We call these achievements "spiritual growth." Unfortunately, we miss a key component to God's plan for spiritual growth: the body. Our culture denies death. Listen to the headlines advertisements: we're always attempted to prolong life, mask aging, and defeat sickness. The apostle Paul faced his mortality. "To live is Christ and to die is gain," he wrote. He cares less about ending suffering, and more about intimacy with Jesus. Listen in.
