We don't like to run into the inflated ego of others. Nor do we like to admit our ego gets inflated at a times. Instead, we like to pick at the big ego in politicians, CEOs, athletes, and religious people. This is not our job. God does not call us to deflate the ego of self-important people, but to learn humility. It looks much better on us than an inflated ego.

All our goods are gifts from God. Not only does He intend for us to steward them well but also give back to Him. Keeping all our money in our possession does not please Him. Neither does paltry giving. This goes for our use of time, skills, and resources, too. Malachi's fourth dispute challenges God's people to ante up and give God his due.

Stains of social injustice show up everywhere. Racism, poverty, sexism, human trafficking, neglect of the elderly, and plight of the orphan top the list. We can easily be overwhelmed. We might even groan. But through Malachi God says, "Rest assured, someday I will scrub out these stains." Until then, we, too, may scrub out injustice where God has given us passion to scrub.

This sermon encourages us to make marriage great again.

We all cheat: in games and sports, at work and school, toward friends or God. Malachi calls out the God's people for cheating Him in their sacrifices. They offered what was second best (or worse), holding back better offerings for themselves. This tendency to serve self before God is ultimately cheats us.

God's love is more than lip service; it is historically documented and personally demonstrated. Hallmark and Hollywood have trained us to think of love as romance and emotion. It's much greater. God commits to act on behalf of His people. Sadly, we often doubt His love. Thus opens the first of six disputes in the book of Malachi.
