The author of Hebrews waxes advent. Providing a "word of encouragement" (13:22) to his Jewish-Christian readers who are tempted to return to their religious roots. Pressure in Judea is high for followers of Jesus. Nonetheless, he insists they keep their eyes fixed on their the author and perfecter of their faith. Jesus has died for them, forged them into a new family, and defeated Satan. He did this by become lowly. His human experience gave him firsthand experience with humility. Not only did he save us, but he also showed us how to live lowly.
