by
Branden Pahl
Passage:
&
1 Samuel 17:1-24:22
Duration:
51 mins 34 secs
David is the foil of Saul. While the first king of Israel was proud, David demonstrated humility. He trusted God, stood in His strength, showed restraint, and practiced gratitude. This sermon gleans lessons on humility from the ruddy king of Israel after God's own heart.

Ineffective Pride
Sun, Jul 24, 2016
by
Branden Pahl
Passage:
1 Samuel 8:1-19:24
&
2 Corinthians 10:1-18
Duration:
1 hr 1 mins 37 secs
King Saul's pride rendered him ineffective. His good looks and tall height could not compensate for his impatience, need to control, and ability to turn others into rivals. This sermon takes note of Saul's ascent and decline as it related to his pride, and draws implications for the ongoing struggle we have with pride.

Confess
Sun, Jul 17, 2016
by
Tim Sprankle
Passage:
Nehemiah 9:1-38
&
Exodus 34:6-7
Series:
Build Up - Nehemiah
Duration:
41 mins 2 secs
Confession may sound like a bad word. It is a spiritual purging, akin to a thick sweat or dry heave. But confession is actually a grace. God invites us to let go of our guilt and the sin that so easily entangles us in exchange for his forgiveness and perfect righteousness. The confession service in Nehemiah 9 provides a powerful model of corporate confession, illustrating the long back story of sin as a learned behavior, but the longer fuse of God, who is merciful.

What's Love Got to Do with It?
Sun, Jul 10, 2016
by
John Lillis
Passage:
John 13:33
&
John 15:10-13
Duration:
38 mins 34 secs
The curb appeal for the church should not be bustling children's ministries, innovative outreach efforts, or exegetical preaching. Jesus said love should define believers. Unfortunately, bad press and bad behavior has given the church a bad reputation -- throwing punches, not giving hugs. This sermon calls for a return to love, the central ethic for followers of Jesus.

Feast
Sun, Jul 03, 2016

Tim Sprankle
Passage:
Nehemiah 8:1-18
&
Nehemiah 10:28-39
Series:
Build Up - Nehemiah
Duration:
22 mins 29 secs
Christians should learn a lesson from Nehemiah (and the OT Jewish Calendar) about turning a meal into a feast. Food can be a signal for gratitude, joy, and hope when eaten with the right people in the right way. In fact, Jesus turned regular meals into feasts throughout his ministry. Learn to feast with joy in this short message.

Finish
Sun, Jun 26, 2016
by
Tim Sprankle
Passage:
Nehemiah 6:1-7:4
Series:
Build Up - Nehemiah
Duration:
44 mins 58 secs
Finishing a task is often harder than it seems. To finish pushes us beyond our comfort zones, stirs up fears, and creates opposition (internal and external). We face distractions and give into short-term gratification, rather than long-term satisfaction. Nehemiah exemplifies how to resist obstacles and finish his task. He builds a wall in Jerusalem, in spite of constant interruptions. He calls us to live as finishers.

Passage:
Nehemiah 6:1-19
&
Deuteronomy 24:10-24
Series:
Build Up - Nehemiah
Duration:
46 mins 31 secs
Most of us have enough. The problem is that we want more, rather than share more. However, when God's people learn to share, letting generosity not greed drive them, they push back injustice and elevate others. Nehemiah fights economic ills related to the wall rebuilding project. He models a compassionate generosity that should be lived out in the church.

Stand
Sun, Jun 12, 2016
by
Tim Sprankle
Passage:
Nehemiah 4:1-23
Series:
Build Up - Nehemiah
Duration:
44 mins 53 secs
Nehemiah stood against his opponents, whose taunts and plots disturbed the people of Jerusalem, but did not stop their work. Any building project for God's glory will face opposition, but good leaders and workers stand firm through the fear, knowing their God fights for them. This integrates stories of modern day bullies, imprecatory psalms, bands of brothers, and God's strength.

Build

Tim Sprankle
Passage:
Nehemiah 3:1-32
Series:
Build Up - Nehemiah
Duration:
41 mins 7 secs
Nehemiah coordinates an efficient and effective building project. In fifty-two days with more than forty teams, he reuilds the walls around Jerusalem. While the reading is not riveting, the building lessons in Nehemiah are priceless. every building effort -- a wall, marriage, family, career, ministry or social network -- benefits from a vision and plan where leaders and laborers apply their skills to local needs. One does not need to be handy to build for God's purposes.

ASK
Sun, May 29, 2016
by
Tim Sprankle
Passage:
Nehemiah 2:1-20
&
Matthew 7:7-12
Series:
Build Up - Nehemiah
Duration:
43 mins 48 secs
Asking can open unlikely doors. Unfortunately, we may ask in the wrong ways with the wrong motives. We may manipulate and disrespect. Learning to ASK in the right ways with the right motives grants dignity to others and opportunities for success. Nehemiah demonstrates two great ASKS. This sermon gives several principles for good asking, bolstered by a few intriguing grammatical notes. I ask you to listen and apply!
